Guitar Projects Part 2
Yesterday was a busy day.
I received the pickguard and new pickups for my guitar restoration project.
It really wasn't a direct fit for the OEM, so I had to make it fit:
- Manually reshape the guard, something that has had a few hours into it and needs a little more work to fine tune.
- I needed to route out some cavities further to facilitate additional pots and the alignment of the bridge pickup.
I didn't own a router of the work working variety. Now I do after a trip down the road to the big green shed, spending money I couldn't afford.
Eventually it all fit (within a fractions of a millimetre of going too far). New holes drilled and its starting to look good.
A few minutes with the soldering iron to reconnect a ground wire that come loose and the output jack, and the body was mostly done.
I need to tidy up the edging around the lower horn still, and I'm glad that I cut the white plastic off the end of the whammy bar.
I've actually gone from really quite hating this guitar to being eager to finish it off and see how it performs. I like the black a lot more than the white. It has a much more aggressive yet better quality look to it.
The neck is going to be a big job. Eventually the gear will arrive to get started on that.
Eagerly awaiting the kit guitar too so I can get started on that (though I'll need to clean up the mess of saw dust and plastic I have all over the workbench from this little endevour.
