ARISS - SSTV From the International Space Station

It's that time of year when there's another SSTV event beaming down from the ISS. Something I'm always excited about, especially given it was something that got me back interested in radio.

Needless to say, I was ready to go when that first pass came over, and that all too familiar sound poured out of the speakers.

The first image received was 1/12, so that's a good start.

Then came:

Unfortunately the noise started on the second pic as the ISS started t pass the east coast.

Later on (I've removed the poor receives):

Not bad for a nights work. With a bit of luck I'll get the rest of the images, and hopefully some better copies over the course of the week.

This time around, I've gone with using the Icom IC706Mk2G through MMSSTV on the X200 antenna. Nothing special on my end - this radio is normally on this antenna for VHF. The only real difference is what frequency I'm on for RX, given this rig does the bulk of the SSTV work.

I've disconnected the dipole during this period though and put it on the G90 to see that goes so I can use that for FT8. The results between the dipole and the vertical vary widely, so sometimes the change is interesting.

These events aren't high effort, but they're cool and there's always opportunity to engage on social media groups with what has been received.
