New Image Gallery.
Over in the menu on the left, you'll see a link to the Image Gallery.
It's not the source for all of the images here - instead it's where the images my radios receive land.
Quite simply, MMSSTV, eQSL and APT images all collected on my radio PC are uploaded to a webserver hourly.
I had tried various apps available to do this, but in the end it was far easier to write a batch file for each of the image types that would upload them via FTP and call it a day. The batch files run via a scheduled task that then runs hourly.
The webserver that serves the sstv.vk3acp.com site is local, so I can afford to get away with just FTP as a method. If I needed to transfer over the internet, I'd be using a secure protocol instead. FTP is quite simply a bad protocol. It offers no protection for your login credentials nor anything you send using it. There are secure alternatives - SFTP and FTPS. These will vary depending on the host but provide protection that FTP does not.
I've gone with Piwigo as a gallery application. Much more involved than the usual "SSTV Cams" sites that just load a few pics. It has a dedicated database to handle things. This works for me as an easy "backup" option, especially as my radio PC tends to fill its disk often due to constant recording.
The gallery site needs a stack of work to tart it up, but it's at least a start.
To dos:
- Modify the theme to brand it appropriately and get some link backs running.
- Work out how often Piwigo actually syncs against the directory images are loaded to. If possible set to run frequently. If not, change the scheduled task frequency.
