Decisions decisions
Yesterday I stopped beating around the bush and ordered some RG213U. It should be enough to get from the dipole inside. What I haven't worked out is cable routing yet.
If I go through the window, I need a few more bits. And that's just more money...
At least it might help saving what few watts I use, and maybe that shielding will work a little better in here. On the upside, the Mini Whip antenna that has been up for months and never powered up... because I haven't had enough cable... I think that'll get resolved as well. At least I should be able to fire up the SDR again.
I've put the Yaesu FTM400XDR out of the car up for sale. It's in excellent nick, done practically no work and still worth a fair bit given it's only a year old. Someone else might as well get some value out of it.
I've swapped the old Retevis RT95 into the car. In manages to fit in the centre console. I need to do some work to get it sitting in there snug, but it's certainly wired in.. in a rough kinda way. It really wasn't doing anything anyway. I didn't want an entire radio in the cabin, but given the absolute lack of use the Yaesu had (and the car for that matter), I don't think it matters all that much.
I've been watching IC7300s.. I'm finding it hard to ignore decent sized water falls and all of those bits that the IC706 just doesn't have, and the G90 doesn't have big enough. Future problem.
I've also been wanting to do something about changing over the vertical. I think that's the higher priority given I have an expectation of some improvement over what I currently have. Selling the Yaesu should make this happen with a bit of luck.
