The end of Easter.. and back to work. Kind of.
Yesterday was my first post-Easter day back at work.
The most exciting part of the day was when the new radio kit and servo arrived for the nitro car. Everything else was fairly "meh".
The only radio that's been on is the G90, which usually sits around doing FT8, and I haven't paid it a lot of attention on accounts of the interference the audio adapter throws up - though it does seem to otherwise still be functional.
I'm waiting patiently to get the flag pole dipole back up just as soon as the new rope arrives. It's rather annoying having it laying down around head height suspended over gates and sheds parallel to the fence. As soon as that's sorted, I can get back to it with the IC706 and get some SSTV happening.
In the mean time, I managed to fit the new steering servo into the nitro car during my lunch break and tried to get my head around the new radio kit as well as I could.
It wasn't perfect, requiring full trim to get the throttle closed enough to idle without moving and the screw holding the throttle linkage to the servo is stripped. The throttle mostly works, though it's a bit sticky at times. I've ordered a replacement kit. Hopefully that will alleviate some of these issues.
I took it out for a run at a nearby reserve after work, making most of the fact that I'm currently lacking any present harmonics (a situation that changes this afternoon when I head off to collect one).
I was out for about an hour, and quite simply, I had fun. It ran, it rolled a couple of times, and it stranded itself early on - the engine mount has a bit of play in it.. and I'd tightened it before I left. As it bedded down, it appears to have dropped alignment slightly so the cogs were not quite lined up. A quick adjustment and back on track.
Even with the trim being set so far one way that I couldn't get the throttle fully open, this thing was fast. Too fast to be able to juggle driving it and photographing it at the same time. The reserve just isn't *that* big, and I didn't feel like leaving my box of gear sitting on a seat beside a path and having to walk quite so far to find out the range limits (will save that for the kids).
Clean up took as long as the time I spent playing. I built a new "bench" on Tuesday for it, and by this morning post clean, it's a mess. I collected a lot of grass and dirt. The bogan/redneck air filter is done (still awaiting replacements to arrive), and I now see the importance of getting new shocker boots on.
All things considered, I'm happy with progress. I finally managed to get some time in where I could enjoy the time and financial investment.
Now if only I had more time to be able to play with it!
